CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The LSU women’s tennis team combined to win five singles matches and five doubles matches on the opening day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the Duke Tennis Center.
Jessica Golovin led the way for the Lady Tigers with a victory over No. 28 Stephanie Nauta of Virginia 6-3, 6-3 on court two. In just two tournaments, the freshman has already defeated four ranked players.
In addition to her singles victory, Golovin teamed up with transfer Ryann Foster to defeat Virginia’s team of Stephanie Nautu and Erica Susi, 8-2. The duo opened the tournament with an 8-7 (5) win over Magda Aubets and Yana Morar of VCU.
Abby Owens defeated Virginia’s Meghan Kelley 7-5, 6-2 on court three for her eighth win of the fall. Owens, along with partner Skylar Kuykendall, defeated Virginia’s team of Skylar Morton and Meghan Kelley, 8-5.
Skylar Holloway and Ella Taylor rounded out the bottom half of the singles lineup with victories. Taylor defeated Susi 6-3, 6-1 and Holloway earned the win over Maci Epstein 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-5. The Lady Tigers also teamed up to earn doubles wins over Tori Olivarez and Epstein, 8-6, as well as VCU’s Sofia Segerfors and Anna Ramussen, 8-4
In addition to her success in doubles, Foster also improved to 4-3 on the fall with a 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-8 victory over Olivarez.
