BATON ROUGE – The University Club of Baton Rouge and Tiger Athletic Foundation hosted Membership Night on Thursday October 1, honoring the LSU Men’s and Women’s Golf teams.
Members of the University Club were invited to attend the event hosted at the newly remodeled University Club Sports Complex and were treated to food, music and appearances by both the LSU Men’s and Women’s Golf teams. Members mingled and enjoyed the new amenities now available following completion of the 4,500 foot Sports Complex, while a few guest speakers addressed the crowd.
Home to both the LSU Men’s and Women’s Golf teams, the University Club plays a vital role in the current and future success of the programs. TAF President and CEO, Rick Perry addressed the crowd and thanked them for their financial support of the LSU Men’s and Women’s Golf programs, which has played a key role in their success. “The impetus behind the opening of the University Club in 1997 and the course renovations in 2010 was to provide our LSU Golf teams with a facility that would allow them to compete for Championships. As a result of the tremendous generosity of so many donors that goal has been achieved.” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, Joe Alleva also thanked the University Club members for sharing their home with the Tigers and their support of LSU’s golf programs.
LSU Men’s Golf head coach, Chuck Winstead, and Women’s Golf head coach, Karen Bahnsen spoke to the crowd and introduced their 2015-2016 teams. Both coaches echoed the appreciation shown by Alleva and Perry. “[The golf course renovations] have changed LSU Golf for the better!” Coach Winstead remarked following applause for his team’s 2015 National Championship run. Both Winstead and players from the Men’s National Championship team have acknowledged that renovations to the University Club golf course and particularly to the greens, made possible by the programs’ supporters, were significant factors in their success at the 2015 National Championship.
The event Thursday is hoped to be the first of many membership nights to be held in the future at the new UC Sports Complex.
