COLUMBIA, Mo. — No. 69 Skylar Kuykendall extended her winning streak to 10 matches and earned her 21st win of the season to become only the second Lady Tiger in the last 14 seasons to win 20 or more matches in a season in LSU’s 6-1 win over Missouri Sunday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Center.
“I’m really proud of the way the girls competed today after the match on Friday,” head coach Julia Sell said. “To come out of this road swing 3-1 in huge for our program. I’m also proud of Skylar and what she’s done this season. She has worked so hard this season but she’s not done yet.”
Twenty-fifth ranked LSU improved to 16-8 on the year and 6-5 in conference play with the win. Missouri fell to 8-15 on the year. It’s only the third time since 2003 that the program has reached the six win mark in conference play.
LSU got off to quick start to capture the doubles point for just the second SEC match this season. No. 32 Joana Vale Costa and Noel Scott defeated Alex Clark and Brianna Lashway, 8-4, on court one. Skylar Holloway and Atanasson clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Kelli Hine and Brianna Lashway on court three.
No. 39 Joana Vale Costa bounced back from Friday’s loss to secure the first singles point for LSU. The sophomore defeated Hine 6-1, 6-1 on court one.
Abby Owens extended her win streak to four matches with her 6-3, 6-3 win on court three.
After Kuykendall defeated Bea Machado Santos 6-2, 7-6 on court two, Ella Taylor clinched the match for LSU with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court four.
Clare Raley claimed the only point for Missouri on court six with the win over Skylar Holloway.
Noel Scott wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 on court four over Brittany Lashway.
LSU returns to action for the final weekend at the ‘Dub’ and the last two regular season matches of the season. The Lady Tigers square off with Kentucky at 4 p.m. Friday.
