Golfer Sagstrom on Annika Award Watch List

BATON ROUGE – LSU senior women’s golfer Madelene Sagstrom, ranked No. 3 in the country in the Golfweek/Sagarin performance rankings and in the Golfstat Cup, is listed on the latest watch list announced Friday for the 2015 ANNIKA Award.

The ANNIKA Award presented by 3M honors the player of the year in women’s college golf, as selected by a group of college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media. UCLA’s Alison Lee was named the inaugural ANNIKA Award recipient in 2014.

Andy Zunz of Golfweek put out the latest list that includes Sagstrom, who is the active leader in the Southeastern Conference in stroke average at 71.05. She won her second tournament of her career earlier this spring when she tied with teammate Caroline Nistrup at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. In the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, LSU’s last start, she lost in a playoff for the title with the No. 1 golfer in the Golfweek poll and also a member of Zunz’s ANNIKA watch list, Leona Maguire of Duke.

Also on the watch list are Bronte Law of UCLA (No. 4 Golfweek), Marijosse Navarro of Texas A&M (No. 7), Dana Finkelstein, of UCLA (No. 2), Ally McDonald of Mississippi State (No. 10), Jennifer Yang of Washington (No. 12), Celine Boutier of Duke (No. 6), Erynne Lee of UCLA (No. 19) and Sierra Sims, of Wake Forest (No. 9).

Sagstrom is also featured this week in a Zunz story which is available at Golfweek.com.

The Lady Tigers and Sagstrom host their annual home tournament at The University Club in Baton Rouge beginning on Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29.
