BATON ROUGE – LSU senior golfer Madelene Sagstrom, the co-champion of the Allstate Sugar Bowl and runnerup after tying for first in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, has moved up to No. 2 in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance rankings released Tuesday.
Also, the LSU Team, off another strong performance that saw them tie for second with Southern California in the Rucker, has moved up to No. 6 in the same rankings.
Sagstrom, from Sweden, has had a tremendous 2014-15 campaign, averaging 71.39 for 21 rounds with a win and three top five finishes this year and 2 tournament titles and 11 top fives in her career. Sagstrom is 21-13-6 against the top 25 and 49-22-9 against the top 50 in the rankings.
Only Leona Maguire of Duke, who topped Sagstrom in a one-hole playoff for the Rucker title on Sunday, is ranked higher than the LSU player at present.
LSU also has Allstate Sugar Bowl co-champ Caroline Nistrup of Denmark in the No. 16 position in the nation, while junior Elise Bradley of Mandeville is listed as the 36th best player in the country.
The Lady Tigers, with two wins and two second place finishes in the last four tournaments, has been piling up the wins in moving to No. 6 on the chart with a record of 30-12-1 against Top 25 teams in the Golfweek rankings and 52-19-1 against the Top 50. LSU has the 11th toughest schedule to date in the country this year.
