BATON ROUGE – On the heels of its wire-to-wire victory in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, the LSU women’s golf team has been named Golfweek’s Team of the Week.
That win also helped last week to propel LSU into the top 10 in two performance polls put out by Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin.
LSU won its second team title of the season at the Sugar Bowl, finishing 12 shots ahead of runner-up Florida.
LSU won wire-to-wire, an effort that was helped in large part by claiming the top two players on the individual leaderboard. Senior Madelene Sagstrom and sophomore Caroline Nistrup shared the individual title at 4-under 212. The Tigers finished at 10-over 874 as a team.
LSU won the Alamo Invitational to close the fall season – and earn its first team title since co-medaling at the 2012 NCAA West Regional. It will be back to action this weekend with the third spring tournament, the prestigious Darius Rucker intercollegiate at Hilton Head, South Carolina. The tournament starts play on Friday.
LSU will finish up the regular season, March 27-29, when the Lady Tigers host the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge.
