BATON ROUGE – The LSU Men’s Tennis team participated in their first action of 2015 at the Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational on Wednesday. The Tigers faced Rice University and Texas Christian University over the course of two rounds of doubles play to open Wednesday.
The LSU team of junior Boris Arias and sophomore Jordan Daigle defeated the No. 20 ranked TCU team of seniors Will Stein and Nick Chapell to get things started off right for the Tigers.
LSU scored three of their four victories in the first round including one more win from Arias and Daigle along with strong performances from the team of senior Chris Simpson and sophomore Justin Butsch. LSU’s record was 3-1 through the first round of action.
In flight two, the young team of freshman Simon Freund and sophomore Eric Perez scored one more victory for the Tigers when they defeated the Rice team of senior Srikar Alla and sophomore Henrik Munch. LSU finished the day with an even record of 4-4 in doubles.
“We played at a good level today and came away with some good wins,” said head coach Jeff Brown. “Jordan [Daigle] and Boris [Arias] picked up a ranked win and followed it up.”
The Tigers will open play again on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with more doubles action against TCU.
