BATON ROUGE, La — The LSU Swimming and Diving opens its home slate against Incarnate Word Saturday, at 11 a.m. in the LSU Natatorium.

“This is the final tune-up heading to midseason next week,” LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Incarnate Word is in the process of transition (into) Division I, and they have had some strong performances. It’s important for our women to tune up a little bit more before heading into midseason.?

The 17th-ranked Lady Tigers (2-2, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) are coming off a split against Auburn and Alabama two weeks ago.

The last time out, Amber Carter and Kara Kopcso provided wins for the women. Carter touched the wall first in the 50 free (22.90) and 100 fly (53.56). Kopcso finished first in the 200 fly and broke the two-minute mark with a time of 1:59.89. Kopcso also finished third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 400 IM.

Carter also owns the second-fastest 100 fly in the country. The senior set the time of 52.86 at the SMU Classic earlier this season. Carter also swam the ninth-fastest 100 free time in the country at the Classic (49.60).

Against Alabama and Auburn, Devon Dabney finished fourth in both distance events. The sophomore finished the 500 free in 4:59.47 and the 1000 free in 10:07.95. Junior Megan Cox notched third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 free with times of 51.15 and 1:50.07.

Caley Oquist also touched the wall second with a time of 54.26 in the 100 back. The junior also finished third in the 200 back (1:59.83). Her times of 53.28 in the 100 back and 1:56.23 in the 200 back at the SMU Classic are the sixth and ninth fastest times in the country.

Sophie Weber also set the third-fastest 400 IM time in the country (4:12.70) at the SMU Classic.

On the diving side, Alex Bettridge and Cassie Weil lead the way for the women. Bettridge swept both springboard events against Auburn and Alabama, while Weil came in second on both events. Bettridge was named the SEC Diver of the Week honor after her performance against LSU’s SEC rivals.

“This will be our first meet in the comforts of our facility,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “This should allow us to settle in and compete. This is of course preparation for not only the entire season, but preparation for our midseason meet at Texas A&M next week.”

On the men’s side, Brandon Goldman and Frank Greeff finished third and fourth respectively in the 200 fly with times of 1:49.62 and 1:49.88. Goldman also finished third in the 200 back (1:48.79).

Goldman notched the only win for the men’s team against Florida in the 200 back with a time of 1:49.48. The sophomore finished second in the 200 IM (1:53.07) and third in the 200 fly (1:49.78).
