ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, California – The LSU women’s tennis team had a strong showing at the Jack Kramer Invitational Thursday as five Lady Tigers qualified for the round of 16 in singles play and one doubles pairing advanced as well.
In doubles play, the duo of junior Skylar Kuykendall and sophomore Abigail Owens advanced to the round of 16 with an 8-3 victory over Melissa Baker and Natalie Da Silveira of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
On the singles side, sophomores Skylar Holloway, Abby Owens, Joana Vale Costa all advanced to the round of 16. Junior Ella Taylor and freshman Madara Straume qualified for the third round of the tournament as well.
“Across the board I saw a lot of great things today from this team,” said LSU head coach Julia Sell. “There are no easy matches in this tournament so it was very exciting for our team to compete against some new and talented faces. I was particularly pleased with how we adjusted and kept improving.”
