COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The LSU Men’s Tennis team opened play at day one of the 2014 Conference Challenge at Texas A&M University on Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station with several victories in both doubles and singles action. The first day of competition included two rounds of doubles play and one round of singles.
The Tigers notched four victories in doubles action as the teams of senior Chris Simpson and sophomore Justin Butsch and junior Harrison Kennedy and sophomore John Michael Busch paced the team with two victories apiece.
On the singles side, No. 49 Simpson scored a victory against No. 46 Felipe Soares from Texas Tech who had to retire after Simpson forced a third set. Butsch and freshman Simon Freund also won their singles matches to bring the Tiger win total to three on the day.
“We played well today all the way up and down the lineup,” said head coach Jeff Brown. “Three players went undefeated in all three matches. Tomorrow will be a tough test physically with two singles matches in warm conditions.”
Competition will continue tomorrow with two rounds of singles play. The first match is set to start at 10:00 AM.
