Women’s XC Ninth, Men 15th at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – Junior Morgan Schuetz placed 31st, and led the Lady Tigers to ninth place finish at the Crimson Classic in the women’s 5k race, while senior Philip Primeaux finished 28th to help the Tigers place 15th overall in the 8k race.

The Lady Tigers finished with 304 points overall to give them a ninth-place finish out of 33 teams. The Tigers totaled 393 points, finishing 15th out of 31 teams. The Clemson Tigers placed first in the men’s 8k race with a total of 128 points, and Alabama defended their home turf with 68 points for a first place victory in the women’s 5k race.

Schuetz crossed the line for the Lady Tigers with a time of 18 minutes and 13.14 seconds. Senior Andria Aguilar finished just a second behind Schuetz for a 34th-place finish with a time of 18:14.31.

Other top-100 finishes for the Lady Tigers included sophomores Ashley Welborn, Chaiss Matthews, and senior Andrea Maxwell who placed 84th, 86th and 96th out of 291 total runners.

Tennessee’s Chelsea Blasse dominated the women’s 5k for the second consecutive season at the Crimson Classic with a time of 16:37.66 for first place.

For the men, Primeaux crossed the line at 25:43.68 for 28th place, and junior Travis Pope finished just behind with a time of 25:49.53 for 30th place. Freshman D.C. Lipani was the third Tiger to finish with a time of 26:56.51 for a top-100 finish.

The men’s race included 261 total runners with Auburn’s Ty McCormack leading the pack with a time of 24:27.86 for the second consecutive season at the Crimson Classic.

Following the Crimson Classic, LSU will have two weeks before traveling back to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Friday, Oct. 31 for the SEC Championships. The women’s 6k will begin at 9 a.m. CDT, followed by the men’s 8k race at 10 a.m.
