TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The LSU Women’s Tennis team continued their strong performance at the second day of the ITA Southern Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday.
Key performances included the doubles team of senior Noel Scott and sophomore Joana Vale Costa advancing to the semifinals of the Doubles A Draw while Vale Costa also advanced to the quarterfinals finals of the Singles A Draw. Freshman Amanda Atanasson also advanced to the semifinals of the Singles B Draw Saturday.
On the doubles side, the Lady Tiger duo of Scott and Vale Costa defeated University of Louisiana-Monroe senior Sophie Rufyikiri and junior Petra Horakova by score of 8-7 (2) to secure their place in the quarterfinals. The Lady Tiger duo of junior Ella Taylor and sophomore Skylar Holloway were defeated by Alabama sophomore Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen by a score of 8-2.
Abigail Owens, Joana Vale Costa, Skylar Kuykendall and Ella Taylor all advanced to the round of 16 in the Singles Draw.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the way we competed and improved today. Abby and Ella both had two incredible battles against top ranked opponents,” said LSU head coach Julia Sell. “They both lost some crucial No Ad games but learned some valuable lessons in the process.”
Tournament play continues again on Sunday as the Lady Tigers hope to carry the positive momentum into day two in Tuscaloosa.
