PACIFIC PALISADES – LSU sophomore Abigail Owens was defeated in the first round of the 2014 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships prequalifying bracket by a score 6-3, 7-5, on Saturday. It was a very competitive match against No. 1 seed Lynn Kiro from Texas Tech.
Owens was a late addition to the prequalifying field, but took Kiro down to the wire. “Today was a tremendous learning experience for Abby. After overcoming early nerves, she controlled the match for the most part. Abby’s capable of beating quality opponents of this level, especially if she takes care of the short ball,” said LSU assistant coach Tristan Venables.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Tuesday as Joana Vale Costa will represent LSU in the qualifying bracket of The 2014 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.
