BATON ROUGE – The LSU Men’s Tennis team continued their fall season in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center on Saturday where the Tigers had four players compete in pre-qualifying action.
Junior Andrew Korinek advanced to the second round on a bye while freshman Simon Freund notched a 6-4, 6-3, win over Weber State junior Todd Fought to advance to the second round.
The win marked the first college victory for Freund.
“It was nice to see Simon get his first college win,” head coach Jeff Brown said.
Both Korinek and Freund ultimately fell in the second round, as LSU has no players remaining in the pre-qualifying bracket. The team is looking forward to finding success in the remaining competition.
“We are looking to get a few more wins as play continues,” said Brown. “We still have a few guys who will be playing in the qualifiers so we are hoping for big things the rest of this week.”
Sophomore Justin Butsch, who was listed as a qualifying alternate, will join senior Chris Simpson (ranked No. 49 nationally), junior Tam Trinh and sophomores Jordan Daigle (No. 57 nationally) and Eric Perez in qualifying play on Monday, Sept. 29.
