BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team enjoyed another successful day at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Tigers won three of four doubles matches against N.C. State and captured six matches versus Georgia State in singles play.
In doubles, the team of sophomore Joana Vale Costa and sophomore Skylar Holloway held off N.C. State’s Sophie Nelson and Liza Fieldsend for a 7-6 victory. Sophomore Abigail Owens and junior Skylar Kuykendall defeated Elisha Hande and Taylor Stenta to pick up LSU’s second doubles victory of the day by a score of 7-5.
The Lady Tigers took on Georgia State in singles where they came away with six victories. Senior Noel Scott scored a three-set victory over Masa Grgan 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Vale Costa, ranked 61st nationally, continued her winning ways against Niriantsa Rasolomalala by posting a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Kuykendall added yet another win for the Lady Tigers by vanquishing Marcia Tere-Apisah in three sets 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Sophomore Abby Owens continued the winning effort by knocking off Veroknika Golanova in two sets 6-3, 6-1.
Holloway provided another quality effort by adding a straight-set victory against Chaimaa Roudami 6-2, 7-5, and freshman Amanda Atanasson continued her impressive debut for the Lady Tigers by outlasting Tarani Kamoe in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
“These Fall matches are vital for establishing our identity as players and bonding closer as a team,” LSU head coach Julia S. Sell said. “We are excited our freshmen got their first matches in as Tigers, and we are ready to build upon our momentum in tomorrow’s matches.”
LSU continues tournament play on Sunday with doubles matches against Georgia Tech starting at 9 a.m. CT. The Lady Tigers will take on N.C. State in singles following the conclusion of doubles.
