Three Linemen Named to Outland Trophy Watch List

BATON ROUGE – LSU offensive tackles Chris Faulk and Alex Hurst along with defensive tackle Bennie Logan were three of 71 players nationwide named to the 2012 Outland Trophy Watch List, the organizers of the trophy announced Thursday.

The trio of Tigers is joined on the list by 16 other players from the Southeastern Conference.

The Outland Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s top interior linemen, which includes the positions of offensive and defensive tackles, guards and centers.

Former LSU All-American Glenn Dorsey won the Outland Trophy in 2007.

Faulk, a junior, enters his second season as the starting left tackle for the Tigers. In 2011, he posted 73.5 knockdowns on 768 total snaps.

A senior from Bartlett, Tenn., Hurst is a two-year starter at right tackle for LSU who earned First-Team All-SEC recognition last season. He started all 14 games and recorded 71.5 knockdowns in 811 plays.

Logan, a junior from Coushatta, La., will anchor the Tigers at the defensive tackle position as a starter for the second straight year. He came on strong in 2011 when he registered 57 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks.

The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are part of the FWAA All-America Team. The finalists will be selected by the FWAA All-America Committee on Nov. 19, and the trophy winner will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 6 on ESPN.
