TEMPE, Ariz. – The LSU women’s golf team found the final day of the regular season to have some tough moments as they were unable to get much going in their team round at the PING/ASU Invitational, dropping back to ninth to conclude the 54-hole tournament.
The Lady Tigers shot a 22-over 306 on the final day, to finish the 54 holes at 33-over 885 (294-285-306). Defending national champion UCLA won the competition with a 5-over 857 on the blustery day with rounds of 284-281-292. The Bruins were 12 shots better than Arizona State which finished second at 17-over 869 (280-298-291). Texas A&M took third at 873.
The seniors, Tessa Teachman and Jacqueline Hedwall, led LSU in the final round with 3-over rounds of 74, while Lindsay Gahm posted a 78, Katrina Hegge an 80 and Madelene Sagstrom 81.
UCLA’s Ani Gulugan and UC Davis’ Debi Runas were declared co-champions after tying for medalist honors at 1-under 212. Gulugan shot even par 71 on the final day while Runas came in at 3-over 74.
Teachman just missed another top 10 on her season, holding at 11th place at 4-over 217 (74-69-74). Hedwall finished in a tie for 22nd at 7-over 220 (74-72-74).
LSU will now get ready for the Southeastern Conference Women’s Championship to be held at The Blessings course in Fayetteville, Ark., April 19-21.
