Women’s Golf Advances at ASU/PING Invitational

TEMPE, ARIZ. – The LSU women’s golf team put together a strong second round and moved from 11th to sixth place after Saturday’s second round of the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course.

The Lady Tigers posted a 1-over par 285 on the par 71 course to finish 36 holes at 11-over par 579 (294-285). LSU is just one shot out of the tie for fourth between UC Davis and Arizona State with both at 10-over par 578. UCLA leads the tournament at 3-under par 565 (284-281) with Texas and Texas A&M tied at 6-over par.

LSU is showing the ability of its roster, playing without Austin Ernst, who is playing in the LPGA major, the Kraft Nabisco Championships.

The Lady Tigers got four counting scores without the need to use freshman Madelene Sagstrom‘s score which was just a 2-over par 73.

Senior Tessa Teachman posted a 2-under round of 69, while senior Jacqueline Hedwall, sophomore Lindsay Gahm and junior Katrina Hegge all posted counting rounds of 1-over 72.

As a quintet the Lady Tigers combined for 12 birdies and Hegge also recorded an eagle three on a par 5.

Teachman moved up over 30 spots in the standings from a tie for 43rd to a tie for 11th entering Sunday’s final round at 1-over 143 (74-69). Sagstrom is tied for 15th at 2-over 144 (71-73).

“I am very pleased with how the girls have responded, especially with the round on Saturday,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “As we’ve said many times, everyone on this team is needed and has helped us all throughout the year. We look forward to trying to close the tournament on a positive note.”
