CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The LSU Lady Tigers golf team posted a second straight round under par Saturday at the Tar Heel Invitational and the No. 3 ranked women’s golf team moved into a tie with No. 4 Alabama for the lead entering Sunday’s final round.
The Lady Tigers will go for their second title in three tournaments Sunday when the final round gets underway Sunday morning.
Also, Swedish freshman Madelene Sagstrom remains in contention for the individual title after a second consecutive under par round, this time a two-under 70 to go with Friday’s opening round of four-under 68. She stands at six-under 138 in third in the individual competition, three shots behind the lead of Hannah Collier of Alabama at nine-under par 135 (69-66).
Caroline Powers of Michigan State is second at 137, seven-under par.
LSU finished the second round at three-under par 285, to go with Friday’s 284 to stand at seven-under par 569. Alabama, three shots clear of LSU after the opening round, shot even par and is also at seven-under 569 (281-288). The pair have for the time being separated themselves from the rest of the field with North Carolina seven shots back in third at even par 576 (290-286).
Besides Sagstrom’s two under, senior Tessa Teachman and sophomore Lyndsey Gahm each posted one-under par 71s and sophomore Austin Ernst and senior Jacqueline Hedwall each had one-over par 71s.
Teachman is two-under 142 after back-to-back rounds of 71, in a tie for 11th place, with Ernst tied for 17th at one-over 145.
Tulane is in 14th place at 19-over 595 after two rounds.
