Women’s Golf Fires Best Round, Finishes 11th

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The LSU women’s golf team had its best round of the weekend, but was unable to make up much ground, finishing 11th after Sunday’s final round of the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

LSU posted a five-over round of 293, easily its best of the weekend, to finish at 32-over 896 (303-300-293), good enough for 11th in the 18-team event, won by defending NCAA team champion, UCLA, at nine-over par 873 (296-283-294). Alabama finished second at 15-over par 879 with Arizona State and Virginia at 20-over 884.

LSU’s final round was paced by two under par rounds with freshman Madelene Sagstrom posting a two-under par 70 and sophomore Austin Ernst scoring a one-under 71. Sagstrom moved up 17 places to post a top 20 finish, tying for 20th at five-over 221 (75-76-70) for the 54-hole event. Ernst moved up 21 spots to 30th at eight-over 224 (78-75-71).

The Lady Tigers also counted a 75 from senior Tessa Teachman and a 77 from sophomore Lindsay Gahm.

“We did not get off to a good start but the girls battled like they always do and improved,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We will go back to work to prepare for the next event.”

LSU’s next event is set for Oct. 7-9 at the Lady Tar Heel Event in Chapel Hills, N. C. Follow LSU women’s golf on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/LSUwomensgolf and on Twitter @LSUwomensgolf.
