COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The LSU diving corps wrapped up the NCAA Zone ‘D’ Diving Regional in College Station, Texas, Sunday with freshman Rebecca St. Germain posting a 14th-place finish in the platform competition.

St. Germain, who was the only Tiger to compete Sunday, tallied 209.95 points on five dives. The San Antonio native fell just short of qualifying for her first NCAA Championships by one spot in the three-meter competition Saturday and finished as the second alternate.

“We have a young group, but I thought the kids competed really well,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Becca was awesome this weekend. Unfortunately, she missed qualifying for NCAA’s as a freshman by just 65 one-hundredths of a point in three-meter. Considering our youth, I’m optimistic going forward, and I think we will see some great things from this group in the future.”

The 25th-ranked LSU women will send five swimmers to represent the team at the 2010 NCAA Championships, which begin Thursday in West Lafayette, Ind. The men’s NCAA Championships will be held the following week, March 25-27 in Columbus, Ohio, and five swimmers from the 19th-ranked LSU men will travel to meet.
