BATON ROUGE — Five swimmers from the 25th-ranked LSU women’s team earned invitations to the 2010 NCAA Championships, it was announced Wednesday night.
Junior Jane Trepp, sophomores Mary Beck, Morgan McGee and Samantha Goates and freshman Amanda Kendall will represent the Lady Tiger swimmers at the national meet, which will be held March 18-20 on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
Trepp, a three-time NCAA All-American in relay competition last season, will be making her second trip to the national meet. The team co-captain is in position to go after All-America finishes in both individual and relay competition as she is ranked in the top 16 in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.34 seconds) and 100 butterfly (52.73) and is 24th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.91). Furthermore, the Estonian figures to be a critical part of four relays.
Beck is also making her second trip to NCAA’s. The Austin, Texas, native earned an invitation based on her top individual times and will swim the 200 individual medley and 100 and 200 backstroke in West Lafayette. She also should play a role in the 400 medley relay and potentially other relays as well.
This will be the first NCAA appearance for the trio of McGee, Goates and Kendall, who will be a factor on numerous relays. In addition, McGee will race individually in the 100 back and 100 fly, Goates will compete in the 100 free and Kendall will swim the 50, 100 and 200 free.
Lady Tiger divers Rebecca St. Germain and Elle Schmidt will attempt to qualify for NCAA’s at the Zone ‘D’ Diving Regional, beginning March 12 at Texas A&M’s Student Rec Center Natatorium in College Station, Texas.
