BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team flexed its pitching depth and fired a pair of one-hitters en route to two shutout victories over Louisiana College and Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at Tiger Park.
Cody Trahan and Brittany Mack combined for 10 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Louisiana College, while Rachele Fico and Kirsten Shortridge teamed for a 7-0 triumph against Louisiana-Monroe.
“We got some very solid performances from many Tigers on a very hot day,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “The entire pitching staff was very impressive as well as Allison Falcon on the offensive side. We looked forward to continue to learn and build our team in tomorrow’s games.”
Trahan set the tone against Louisiana College striking out five of the first six batters she faced before the Tigers struck for two runs in the second inning.
With one out, Jessica Mouse knocked a single to left field followed by an Allison Falcon double off the centerfield fence. Casey Faile drove home the fall’s first run on a RBI-single and Falcon scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
Heidi Pizer tacked on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, while Mouse drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning for the final margin of 4-0.
LSU exploded for six runs against Louisiana-Monroe in the first inning as Courtney Hollier, Ashley Langoni and Pizer provided RBI hits. Langoni picked up another RBI-single in the fourth inning to complete the 7-0 win.
After a leadoff walk, Fico retired 12 of the final 13 batters she faced, including a stretch of 10 consecutive hitters.
The Tigers take on LSU-Eunice and Southeastern Louisiana Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Admission is free to Tiger Park.
