NBA Summer League Play Begins in Vegas

LAS VEGAS ? The official NBA summer league at two locations in Las Vegas begins Friday afternoon and two LSU players will be featured in the first game of the event at 3 p.m. when the Houston Rockets meet the Golden State Warriors.

Garrett Temple will be on the Houston Rockets squad looking to make the team as a free agent and Anthony Randolph, after his rookie season as a first-round draft pick in 2008 by the Warriors, will be one of the featured players for Golden State in the game.

The Rockets will also play on Saturday night at 9 p.m. CST while Golden State matches up with Sacramento in the 7 p.m. contest on Saturday.

Second-round draft pick Marcus Thornton, who signed earlier this week with the New Orleans Hornets, will be in action with his summer league squad beginning on Sunday at 3 p.m. against the San Antonio Spurs prior to a game between Houston and Minnesota. LSU’s Terry Martin is trying to make it as a free agent on the Hornets summer league squad.

LSU fans remember two-years ago that then free agent Brandon Bass, after two years in New Orleans, had a spectacular showing in the summer league and was able to sign a new two-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

LSU’s Chris Johnson will play his final game this afternoon as part of the Philadelphia/New Jersey spilt squad in the Orlando summer league which concludes play Friday. The 76ers/Nets squad has yet to win a game and will face Boston in their final game of five. Johnson in his first four games has steadily increased his minutes, playing 19 minutes with six points in a starting spot against Orlando and played 15 minutes and had six points Thursday in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
