SENIOR SEASON (2008-09)
Garrett Temple, the third member of the Temple family to play at LSU joining his father Collis, Jr. (1972-75) and older brother Collis III (2000-03), became the all-time leader in minutes played at LSU during his senior season with 4,432, an average of 33.1 a game (old record, 4,276-Howard Carter, 1979-83) … Played in 134 games, starting 131 with 84 wins … One of just nine players all-time at LSU to play on two Southeastern Conference championship teams … Started on the 2006 NCAA final Four Team … Averaged 7.1 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season … Finished fifth in the league in assists, fifth in steals (1.7) and was one of three players in the league to have a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio (134-67) … Finished his LSU career fourth in assists (482), seventh in steals (191) and fourth in blocks (113) … Eight games in double figures scoring, giving him 29 for his career … Had a career high 10 assists vs. Troy on Nov. 30 and in next game had 10 rebounds (career best) against Cal State Fullerton (12/2) … In both games flirted with triple doubles scoring nine points with seven boards, then scoring eight points with seven assists versus Fullerton … Career high 21 points against Florida (2/24), hitting 7-of-10 field goals and 3-of-4 treys … Career tying six steals vs. Washington State … Moved to the three guard position this year, but still led team in assists with over 130 for the second time in career … More assists than turnovers each year of career … Defensively, again received recognition for his two games against Jodie Meeks of Kentucky, especially in SEC Tournament quarterfinals when he held Meeks to just eight points … Earned All-SEC Defensive Team honors, as well as being named to the coaches All-SEC Second Team … Temple’s 134 games played topped the previous school mark of 130 by Jose Vargas (1984-88) and the 131 starts is the new standard in that category (128, Torris Bright, 2000-03).
JUNIOR SEASON (2007-08)
Played a team high 1,066 minutes, an average of 34.4 minutes per game, just over the average he played last season … Averaged 6.4 points a game, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game … Ranked 11th in the league in assist average … Seven games in double figures, 21 for his career … 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio with 111 assists and 73 turnovers … Has played almost 3,400 minutes in three years at LSU … 348 career assists, eighth all-time at LSU … Best scoring game was 17 points twice – against Oklahoma State in Maui (11/19) and against Auburn (1/16) … In the game prior to the Auburn game at Ole Miss, Temple equaled his career high with four treys in a 16-point night … Career high of nine rebounds against Alabama (2/2) … Had 15 games of four assists or more, topped by an eight-assist game in the home win against Alabama (3/5) … Practically willed the team to victory at Florida (2/13), coming off the floor with blood all over his face after a fall cut his lip, only to return to lead LSU to an upset win … Had 10 points and five assists in the contest.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2006-07)
Started all 32 games, averaging 34.3 minutes a game … Averaged 8.6 points per game, 3.7 rebounds a game, 4.3 assists a contest … Made 35 three-pointers, making 26.9 percent … Had a big improvement at the free throw line, making 57-of-70 or 81.4 percent … 11 double figure scoring games, 14 for his career … Had career high of 18 points at Tulane (12/2), but also scored 17 points vs. McNeese State (11/29), at Oregon State (12/17) and in the win over Florida (2/24) … Had six games of seven assists, two six-assist games and two five assist contests as his assist average finished eighth in the league … Steals average of 1.63 also finished eighth in the league … Minutes played average was fifth best in the league … Finished the year with 138 assists and 83 turnovers, a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio, 10th best in the SEC … During the month of May, was part of Reach USA Tour of China, part of an all-star team of players that went 6-2 against two Chinese league teams … Had best game of 11 points in that series.
REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON (2005-06)
The redshirt freshman stepped up against Vanderbilt in the SEC quarterfinals when Darrel Mitchell was slowed by a bad ankle hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers to score a season high 14 points … It was one of three games for Temple in double figures — Temple scored 10 against Nicholls State (11-21) and 10 at Mississippi State (1-18) … Started 35 of 36 games , averaging 5.1 points per game, 2.6 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists while averaging 33.3 minutes per game (third on the team) … 14 games with four or more assists, with best of five assists on six occasions … Averaged team-high 39.8 minutes on the court in the five NCAA Tournament games … Held J. J. Redick of Duke to one of his poorer shooting nights in the Regional semifinal win against the Blue Devils in Atlanta … Has earned a reputation as a defensive stopper.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2004-05)
Was redshirted during the 2004-05 season, but practiced daily with the Tiger team helping prepare the team for games and work on his game.
PRIOR TO LSU
Participated in basketball and track and University High School in Baton Rouge … In track, was a long jump and triple jump specialist … High school basketball coach was former LSU basketball assistant Ari Fisher … Averaged 13.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists in leading University High to the Class 2A state championship in 2004 … Team also won the 2002 championships in the classification and was a state semifinalist in 2003 … Averaged over 14 points for his career … Team was undefeated in three district seasons … Two-time first-team All-District, second-team All-State and was a member of the All-Metro team and the Top 28 All-Tourney team.
