AUBURN, Ala. — The 10th-ranked LSU gymnastics went toe to toe with Auburn through two rotations, but sixth-ranked Auburn pulled out the victory, 196.575-195.300, Friday night in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
“Tonight was very disappointing. We are going to have to change what we do in practice,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “Our top two kids gave us everything they could, and we said going into this if our top two kids gave us their best we would have a great chance if the beginning of the line-up posted solid performances. Unfortunately that did not happen like we expected it to tonight.”
LSU fell to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in Southeastern Conference competition. Auburn improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 against SEC foes.
Through two rotations, LSU only trailed Auburn, 98.350-98.175, but LSU stumbled on floor in the third rotation ? scoring a 48.225. Auburn tallied a 48.925 on beam and closed out the meet with a 49.300 while LSU finished the meet with a 48.900 on beam.
Individually, senior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney and junior Susan Jackson tied for second in the all-around with a 39.500. Auburn’s Lindsey Puckett won the all-around with a 39.550.
Clare-Kearney won the floor title with a 9.925, increasing her career total to 95 individual crowns.
Jackson tallied a season-high 9.90 on bars to claim the title in the event. Jackson also tied for first on beam with Puckett with a 9.875.
Despite the loss, LSU continues to dominate the all-time series with a 58-11 overall record against Auburn, including a 10-4 mark in Auburn.
After two straight weeks on the road, LSU will return home to play host to Florida next Friday at 7 p.m.
