HOUSTON — Three members of the LSU women’s tennis team came up short on the first day of the Holiday Inn Astrodome Rice Classic at Jake Hess Stadium on Friday.
Both Kylie Adamek and Sloane Mathis fell in their singles matches. Rice’s Rebecca Lin defeated Adamek 6-2, 6-0, and Narine Kasarova of North Texas beat Mathis 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles Mathis and Chandler Kleinpeter fell 8-5 to Francesca Bassoo and Frederique Sundstrom of Lee College.
“We had a tough day today, but we look forward to bouncing back and competing hard tomorrow,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said.
Action will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with doubles play. Kleinpeter and Mathis will play twice in doubles while Mathis and Adamek will each play one singles match beginning at 1 p.m.
