TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — LSU swimming and diving travels to Florida this weekend where they will face Florida State on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bobby E. Leach Center and Florida on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
The No. 21-ranked Tigers hold a 4-2 dual meet record and are currently on a three-meet win streak. The No. 24 ranked-Lady Tigers have won four-straight meets and hold a 5-1 record in dual competition.
The LSU swimming team’s last competition was also in Florida where it swept Notre Dame on New Year’s Day. The men’s side won by a convincing 167-95 mark, while the women’s squad with a 142-120 score.
Diving last traveled to the Georgia Invitational where sophomore Rachel Ware placed top four finishes in the 1 and 3 meter springboard and senior Paige Brown won the platform event. On the men’s side, freshman Michael Neubacher reached the finals of the both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard.
“This road trip is going to be a hard trip and will show the character of our team going against two top programs,” said LSU head coach Adam Schmitt. “We competed against Florida State in the fall and know what each has. There will be no surprises for either side. It is going to come down to who executes and gets their hand to the wall first.”
The two programs competed against each other in mid-November at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Seminoles took first place and the Tigers placed second on both sides.
Florida State head coach Neil Harper was a member of the Tigers’ swimming and diving program from 1985-88 and was a seven-time All-American.
“The LSU-Florida State rivalry is starting to get really fun,” Schmitt commented. “That is what you want – you want to push each other. Neil has a quality team over there. He has done a great job at Florida State and been building a strong program for years. It should be a great meet between two quality programs.”
