BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s swimming and diving team has received a No. 24 national ranking in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America Poll released this week.
LSU received 69 votes and is one of five Southeastern Conference teams in the Top 25. Georgia holds the top spot followed by No. 2 Auburn.
The Lady Tigers hold a 4-1 overall dual-meet record, including a 3-1 mark in SEC action. LSU owns victories over South Carolina, Alabama, Vanderbilt and Delta State. The Lady Tigers’ only loss came against top-ranked Georgia on Oct. 19.
The LSU women have defeated seven of its last eight opponents dating back to last season. That includes a current three-meet winning streak. The Lady Tigers beat the Crimson Tide, 173-127, while also cruising past Vanderbilt, 240-49, on Nov. 2 in Tuscaloosa. Last time out, LSU placed second out of seven teams at the Georgia Tech Invitational in November.
Meanwhile, the LSU men’s team is ranked 21st in the newest poll after receiving 92 votes. The Tigers are the fifth-highest SEC ranked team behind No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 8 Auburn and No. 9 Georgia. Texas claimed the top spot with 300 votes followed by No. 2 Stanford with 288 votes.
LSU opened the season with a hard-fought meet against the Cardinal, and the Tigers have five teams on their schedule that are ranked in the Top 25. LSU owns a 3-2 mark in dual-meet action and finished second at the Georgia Tech Invitational last month.
The Tigers return to action against No. 22 Notre Dame on Jan. 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
