LEXINGTON, Ky. — The LSU men’s tennis team ended its run at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament held at the University of Kentucky after Jan Zelezny and the doubles team of Ryan Lissner and John Tragardh were eliminated on Sunday.
LSU head coach Jeff Brown said he was pleased with the work his team got in this weekend, particularly the three freshmen, Sebastian Carlsson, Julien Gauthier and Ryan Lissner, who participated.
Zelezny was knocked out in the main draw quarterfinals, while Lissner and Tragardh fell in the doubles round of 16.
“We really got our money worth this tournament,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We got a tone of matches and experience. Jan raised his game to another level this week. He proved he could compete with some of the best players in the nation. Some of the younger guys made a nice mark and established themselves a little more and helped their position in the lineup.”
Zelezny faced Daniel Vallverdu of Miami in the quarterfinals. Zelezny lacked the fire power he showed in the previous rounds as he fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The 6-foot senior went 4-1 during the tournament.
Lissner and Tragardh went serve for serve in the early goings of their match against the top seed of Alabama’s Dan Bukemia and Matt Thibedau. The Alabama pair’s experience showed in the end as it won the match by an 8-6 mark.
The Tigers will return to action in two weeks when they travel to the ULL Invitational.
