LEXINGTON, Ky. — Senior Jan Zelezny continued his dominant play at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament held at the University of Kentucky as he advanced to the main draw quarterfinals.
Zelezny’s two wins on Saturday pushed his record to a team-best 9-2 on the season. Jonathan Tragardh and Ryan Lissner also shined on Saturday as they reached the doubles round of 16 and will take on the top seed Dan Bulkema and Mat Thibaudeau of Alabama.
“Jan has improved his level with each match and beat two great opponents today,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “He is showing how good of an athlete he is and continues to impress us. Johnathan Tragardh and Ryan Lissner did a great job against an experienced doubles team. We are really excited with the results we have had with this tournament.”
Zelezny cruised in his round of 32 match against Stetson’s Hicham Laalej, 6-0, 6-1. The Czech Republic native brought his momentum in the round of 16 by handling Florida Tyler Hockwalt, 7-6 (0), 4-6, 6-4.
Lissner and Tragardh outlasted Vanderbilt’s duo of Nick Cromydas and Evan Dufaux, 9-8 (4), to advance to the round of 16.
The tournament will resume play Sunday at 7 a.m.
