BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team will try to extend its winning streak it started on Saturday against Arkansas, when they face the much-improved Ole Miss Rebels Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum in Oxford.
The game will be regionally televised on the Lincoln Financial syndicated network around the SEC and the radio broadcast will be available on the LSU Sports Radio Network and on the Internet at LSUsports.net in the “Geaux Zone.”
The Tigers are going to Oxford off a 71-67 win over Arkansas that upped LSU’s record to 14-10 and 3-7 in the SEC. Ole Miss, a winner Saturday over Alabama, is tied with the Tide for the top spot in the crazy Western Division at 5-5 with a 16-8 mark overall.
“It was good to finally win a close game,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “Any significant season is the ability of your team to win close games. It was good to be able to do that and hopefully we’ll continue to do that. Glen Davis was around the basket and rebounding the ball. We had some guys make plays down the stretch.”
Glen Davis did not practice on Monday because of a sore right quad muscle but took part in the majority of the practice including five-on-five full court drills and was listed as probable for Wednesday night’s game in which he should make his 90th consecutive start. Garrett Temple also practiced Tuesday with the wrap around his right thumb which he jammed Friday prior to the Arkansas game and the three stitches in his upper lip from a practice collision in the opening moments of Monday’s practice.
Ole Miss lost to LSU 62-55 in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 17, but the Rebels have continued to improve under first-year head coach Andy Kennedy.
“We’ve got to play our best at Ole Miss. They’re the most improved team in the league and Andy has done a great job with them. They (Ole Miss) have more confidence now. They’ve won some games here of late and anything you have a belief system that you’re doing well, it will translate into better play.”
LSU returns home to play on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Mississippi State.
