ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The LSU women’s tennis team completed its first day of play at the Michigan Classic as they picked up four singles wins and partners Megan Falcon and Hannah Robinson picked up a doubles win to open competition on Friday.
The duo defeated the No. 29 ranked Melissa Mang and Jessi Robinson of Duke, 8-5, to capture the only victory for the Lady Tigers in doubles.
“I was extremely impressed with the overall effort,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We had some good results and everyone played hard.”
In singles play the Lady Tigers picked up four wins and four losses on the day.
No. 83 ranked sophomore Mykala Hedberg defeated Michigan senior No. 81 ranked Jenny Keuhn in a hard fought match that went in to three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
“Mykala upset Michigan’s No. 1 player in an outstanding match,” Minnis said.
Juniors Tiffany Tucker and Anastasiya Dubova both grabbed wins for the Lady Tigers as they defeated their opponents Allie Shafner and Tanvi Dudhela in straight sets.
Also in straight sets, freshman Robinson came out on top defeating Michigan’s Kara Delicata, 6-3, 6-4.
Tournament play for the Lady Tigers continues Saturday with doubles matches versus No. 29 Michigan at 9 a.m. CST and singles matches versus No. 58 Denver at 12:30 p.m.
