Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Play in Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The LSU women’s tennis team travels to Michigan this weekend for its final tournament before the regular season as they compete in the Michigan Classic.

The tournament begins Friday at 10 a.m. CST and lasts through Sunday. The field includes No. 10 Duke, No. 29 Michigan, No. 52 LSU and No. 58 Denver.

“This is a good opportunity to get one last tournament in before we start our season,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “It is good to play solid teams.”

Each team will play three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles.

Friday’s competition for LSU includes a doubles match-up versus Duke at 10 a.m. and a singles meeting with Michigan at 1:30 p.m.

For Duke, the duo of Daniela Bercek and Elizabeth Plotkin are ranked No. 4 in the nation. Also competing for Duke in doubles is the No. 29 ranked duo of Jessi Robinson and Melissa Mang. Individually, Jenny Kuehn of Michigan ranks No. 81 in the nation.

“This tournament will give us a good idea of where we are and what we need to work on,” Minnis said.

This tournament marks the final preseason match before the Lady Tigers open the regular season at home Jan. 27 in a double dual match with Southern and UL-Lafayette.
