PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — The LSU women’s team completed a tough first day at the SEC Coaches Classic as they were all knocked out of the main draw on Friday.
“It was a tough first day, but the girls are fighting hard,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said.
In flight “A”, sophomore Mykala Hedberg lost to Florida’s Megan Alexander in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. In consolation play, she defeated Auburn’s Alex Haney, 7-5, 6-3.
In flight “B”, freshman Nicole Kantor fell to Tennessee’s Ghizela Schutte in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Staten Spencer lost to Auburn’s Whitney Chappell, 6-3, 6-2.
In the “C” flight, freshman Ashley Murdock was defeated by Arkansas’ Nanar Airapetian, 6-2, 6-1.
Rounding out singles play in the “D” flight, freshman Sloane Mathis fell to Kentucky’s Whitney Spencer in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Consolation play will continue for doubles and singles play on Saturday.
