BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. — Sophomore Rebecca Kuhn and freshman Caroline Martens posted matching 6-over par 78s in the first round Friday to lead the LSU women’s golf team on the first day of the always competitive Bryan National Collegiate at the Champions Course at Bryan Park Golf Club.
The Lady Tigers currently sit in sole possession of 14th place in the strong 17-team field with a first-round score of 26-over 314.
Kuhn and Martens lead the way for Lady Tigers heading into Saturday’s second round as each are currently tied for 40th after the tournament’s opening round, while the trio of junior Melissa Eaton and sophomores Kim Meck and Alexis Rather find themselves one stroke back in a tie for 53rd after posting rounds of 7-over 79.
Purdue leads top-ranked Duke by three strokes in the team standings at 7-over 295. However, Duke’s Elizabeth Janangelo holds a commanding four-stroke lead over Nannette Hill of Wake Forest and Leah Wigger of Virginia for the individual title after firing a 5-under 67 in the first round.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to tee off alongside Vanderbilt and Virginia from the 10th tee in Saturday’s second round beginning at 8:27 a.m. CST. Fans can follow the second-round action by accessing www.golfstat.com.
