BATON ROUGE — The Recreation and Parks Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge has recognized the accomplishments of LSU men’s basketball players Glen Davis, Garrett Temple and Tyrus Thomas by naming them 2006 Champions of BREC.
The recognition was bestowed upon the three in late January by the BREC Commission that voted unanimously to honor the three outstanding college athletes. All three began playing basketball together at the BREC Sports Academy and other BREC facilities when they were in grade school.
The three athletes’ achievements have been illustrated in a television commercial commissioned by BREC designed to promote youth basketball in the Baton Rouge Community. The same recognition was given last year to LSU women’s basketball All-American Seimone Augustus, who also played in BREC leagues and facilities in grade school and high school. The television commercial featuring Davis, Temple and Thomas have aired during the NCAA Tournament in the Baton Rouge market.
The three will be saluted by more than 500 BREC volunteers and presented a commemorative plaque at the 2006 BREC Champions breakfast on April 21.
