Women's Golf Set to Defend Title at Cougar Classic

Women’s Golf Remains 10th at ‘The Derby’

AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU women’s golf team remained just about the same in the second round of “The Derby” golf event here Saturday, remaining in a tie for 10th place after 36 holes of the 54-hole event.

LSU, after a 20-over 308 on Friday, posted a 22-over 302 on Saturday to stand at 42-over par 618, tied for 10th with Oklahoma State. Duke moved to the lead after shooting the day’s best round of 294, six over par. Duke’s back-to-back 294 rounds put them at 12-over 588, five in front of host Auburn. The Auburn Tigers, after a three-over 291 on Friday, posted a 302 on Saturday. Tennessee (594), Georgia (599) and Virginia (603) round out the top five.

Alexis Rather had the best score of the day for LSU at two-over 74. The Tigers also counted a 78 from Rebecca Kuhn and 79s from Kim Meck and Melissa Eaton. Rather and Kuhn are the best for the Lady Tigers at nine-over 153, in a tie for 28th place.

Maria Martinez of Auburn continues to be the individual leader at three-under par 141 after rounds of 69-72. She is four shots clear of Anna Grzebien of Duke (72-73) and Jenny Suh of Alabama (75-70) at 145.
