DESTIN, Fla. — LSU improved six strokes on its team score Saturday, but remained in fifth place after two rounds of the Chrysler Challenge women’s golf tournament over the Raven Course at the Sandestin Resort.
After two rounds, South Carolina has extended its lead to 17 shots after a second round of six over 290 and stands at 587, 19-over par for the 36 holes on the par-71 course. Alabama is holding second at 604, 36-over.
LSU shot 303 in the second round and stands at 44-over par 612. The Tigers individually have three golfers in the top 12 in the standings, topped by Kim Meck who has shot back-to-back three-over par rounds of 74 and her six-over 148 puts her in a tie for seventh, six shots out of the lead set by Jenna Pearson of South Carolina at even par 142 (70-72).
Alexis Rather is playing in the individual competition only and her rounds of 77-73 puts her at 150 and is in a group tied for 10th at eight-over par. Rebecca Kuhn after rounds of 74-77 is at 151 and in a group tied for 13th place.
Kuhn and Meck counted for the team score as did the 75 from Melissa Eaton and the 77 from Nicola Eaton.
The final round is set for Sunday.
