Lady Golfers in Second After Day One in Liz Murphey Collegiate

ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU women’s golf team, coming off a strong win at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic last week in Baton Rouge, put itself in a good position after the first round Friday of the Liz Murphey Collegiate at the University of Georgia golf course.

The Lady Tigers, ranked 13th in the latest polls, posted a 12-over 300 score on the first round and stands in second, two shots behind leader Georgia, which posted a 10-over round of 298. Tulane and Wake Forest are tied for third at 13-over par 301 and Auburn is fifth at 304, 16-over.

Rebecca Kuhn continued her strong play with a two-over par 74, which stands in eighth place after the first day of the 54-hole tournament. Three golfers, Ashley Hoagland of Wake Forest, Stacy Lewis of Arkansas and Lisa Tyler of Georgia are tied for first at even par.

LSU also counted a three-over par 75 from Brooke Shelton and Vicky Meyer and a 76 from Kim Meck.

“We were very close to playing some pretty good golf,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “But I am very pleased with what we were able to do. This course is playing very tough and long so a 300 score is very good for us and puts us in a good position going into the weekend.”

The 54-hole tournament runs through Sunday.
