ANN ARBOR, Mich. — LSU’s Ken Skupski and Mark Growcott will begin their final tournament of the fall season Thursday at the ITA Indoor National Championships.
Skupski is a top-8 seed in the singles bracket, which includes 32 of the top players in the country. He automatically earned a bid to the tournament.
The No. 18-ranked sophomore from Liverpool, England, reached the semi-finals of the ITA All-American Championships in October.
“Ken will have similar matches to the ones he had at the All-American tournament,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “Every match will be like the round of 32 there. But his success at the All-Americans should help him here.”
Skupski and junior Mark Growcott earned a spot in the doubles bracket at the Indoor Championships by winning the ITA Southeast Regional tournament. It was their first collegiate competition as a doubles team.
“This is a very elite tournament,” Brown said. “Only the top singles players and doubles teams qualified. Every match will be an opportunity for a quality win and will be useful for seeding in the NCAA Tournament in the spring.”
The rest of the Tigers go to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational beginning Friday. LSU will take on Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in a dual match format.
