ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU Soccer team was shutout by Georgia on Friday at the Georgia Soccer Stadium, 2-0.
“Georgia played great and they came ready to play,” said LSU co-head coach Danielle Fotopoulos. “They were beating us to every ball and they had fire and desire to win. They were the better team tonight.”
With the loss, LSU (6-6-1, 1-3-1 SEC) is now 1-5 against Georgia (3-6-3, 1-3-1 SEC) all-time. The Tigers were unable to get anything going in a very physical game that had 33 total fouls and three yellow cards.
Georgia scored first in the 11th minute when Karen Zmirak deflected Valerie Vogler kick into the goal. The Tigers would not score in the first half and the Bulldogs would lead 1-0 at the half.
In the second half Baton Rouge native Artie Brown would make a run, but the Georgia keeper would make a great save on the Brown shot.
Zmirak would score again in the 48th minute when she placed a shot from 20 yards out in the back of the net.
The Tigers out shot the Bulldogs 17-16, but Georgia edged LSU in shots on goal 11-10. Stacy Bishop would lead the Tigers in shots with 9.
The Tigers will be back in action Sunday as they will take on Tennessee at noon CST at the Tennessee Soccer Stadium.
