COLUMBIA, S.C. — The LSU soccer team will take on South Carolina on Sunday at noon at the Eugene Stone III Stadium.
“Its going to be a good game because both teams are playing for pride,” said LSU co-head coach Danielle Fotopoulos. “They are coming off of a big win and so they will be ready to play. It is going to be a very tough and physical game.”
LSU (6-10-1, 1-7-1 SEC) comes into the game looking to end its five game skid against South Carolina (7-9-2, 1-6-2 SEC). LSU is 1-3-1 all-time against the Gamecocks.
South Carolina comes into the game having defeated Arkansas on the road, 1-0. The win is their first SEC win this season. Senior forward Ashley Williams, senior defender Sarah Lentz and sophomore midfielder Jessi Swaim lead the Carolina offense. Williams leads Carolina in offense with seven goals for 14 points with Lentz and Swaim right behind her with 10 points each.
Baton Rouge native Artie Brown tied the career goals and points record with her goal in the Florida game. Brown 32 goals and 82 points ties Jackie Cooper who played from 1995-1996.
The Tigers will spend next weekend at home as they finish up the season with Arkansas on Friday at 7 p.m. CST, and Southern on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Mayor’s Cup.
