Soccer Begins Long Weekend at Home Against No. 25 Florida

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team will take on the No. 25 Florida Gators at home Friday at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.

LSU comes into the game with a record of 6-9-1 and a 1-4-1 mark in conference play. The Tigers dropped two close games last week to Alabama, 2-1, and No. 19 Auburn, 2-1. LSU has never beaten the Gators in school history with a record of 0-5-1 against Florida.

The Gators come into the match with a 10-3-3 record and a 4-2-2 record in the southeastern conference. Florida defeated Mississippi State, 4-1, last Friday in Gainesville, but then tied Ole Miss on Sunday, 0-0.

Senior Stephanie Freeman leads the Gators and the SEC in goals with 13 and points with 28. Freeman along with senior Ashley Kellgren combined have scored 18 goals and have 10 assists.

Baton Rouge native Artie Brown leads the Tigers in goals with nine and points with 17. The senior is only one goal away from tying the LSU career goals record of 36 held by Jackie Cooper. Brown is also two points from tying the career points record with 80 career points. Cooper also holds the points record with 82.

The Tigers will continue action as they will travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks on Oct. 24 to finish the weekend.
