MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Kevin Dessauer picked up two wins Thursday to advance to the main draw of the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
Five of his teammates will join him tomorrow in singles play in the main draw.
Dessauer, a freshman, beat Josh Irey of Mississippi State, 7-5, 6-3 in the first round. He then overcame Southern Miss’ Tommy Ostenson, 6-3, 7-6 to move into the next round.
“Kevin did a great job today to come out with both wins,” said LSU associate head coach Mark Booras. “The first two tournaments of this year have really built up his confidence.”
Jonathan Howard lost his first round match to Florent Girod of Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-3.
“Jonathan ran into a tough opponent in the first round,” Booras said. “[Girod] has a lot of experience.”
Six Tigers will be in action in the singles main draw, which includes 24 nationally-ranked players.
“There will be a lot of tough opponents tomorrow,” Booras said. “Hopefully we will be able to execute consistently and get some wins.”
