Golfers Finish 13th at Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU men’s golf team shot a final-round 7-over 291 to finish in 13th place with a 19-over 871 at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Tennessee.

“The important thing is to learn from this performance,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “We felt like this was our best week of practice this year, and we thought that we were prepared for this tournament. We just need to work that much harder to prepare for our tournament next week.”

Sophomore Garrett Runion led the Tigers by finishing in a tie for 21st with a 1-over 214. Sophomore Chris Wells was one shot back in a tie for 29th with a 2-over 215, including a final-round 4-under 67.

“Chris has now had four out of six rounds under par in two tournaments, and Garrett Runion has really stepped it up with his play this year,” said Jones. “Once the seniors get it together with the sophomores, we’ll be fine.”

Seniors Heath West and Jeff Riemann finished the tournament in a tie for 55th and 72nd respectively, while freshman Brent Struthers tied for 47th with a 7-over 220 in his first tournament as a Tiger.

Georgia State improved on their 10th-place finish in this event last season by winning the tournament with a 21-under 831, 20 strokes better than host Vanderbilt. The Panthers also had the individual medalist, as Ty Harris won the tournament by 11 strokes over Jordan Dempsey of Ole Miss with an 18-under 195.

The Tigers will return to action in the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern University Oct. 5-6 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
