NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU men’s golf team shot an opening-day 12-over-par 580 to sit in 12th place after two rounds of the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Tennessee. The Tigers shot a 16-over 300 in the first round but rebounded by firing a second-round 4-under 280.
“I’m disappointed in the first round, but I’m glad the team came back and shot a 280 in the second round,” said LSU head coach Greg Jones. “That is what our team expects to shoot in every round.”
Sophomore Garrett Runion is currently in a tie for 10th place after shooting a 2-under 140, including a career-best 6-under 65 in the second round.
“He just really got it going and started making some birdies,” said Jones. “He came back nicely after shooting 4-over in the first round.”
Both senior Heath West and freshman Brent Struthers are in a 46th-place tie after shooting a 4-over 146, and sophomore Chris Wells is in a tie for 55th with a 6-over 148. Senior Jeff Riemann is in a tie for 73rd with a 14-over 156.
Georgia State leads the tournament by 12 strokes over Ole Miss after firing a 20-under 548, including a tournament-low 15-under 269 in the first round. Tournament host Vanderbilt shot a 5-under 563 to sit in sole possession of third place. Ty Harris of Georgia State leads the tournament by six strokes after shooting an 11-over 131, including a tournament-low 8-under 63 in the first round.
