BATON ROUGE — Seimone Augustus scored a career-high 28 points and No. 14 LSU’s Lady Tigers used an 18-4 run early in the second half to get past Florida 74-59 in Southeastern Conference action on Thursday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Lady Tigers (14-2, 2-0 SEC) extended their win streak to 13 straight games and 11 in a row at home with the victory. Florida (11-5, 1-2 SEC) has now dropped 11 straight road games to SEC teams with the loss.
The Gators, which trailed 31-30 at the break, jumped out to a 35-33 lead with 17:42 left in the second half, but LSU used an 8-0 run to take the lead for good and then went on an 18-4 run to pull away and take control of the game.
“We were not excited about halftime,” said LSU Associated coach Pokey Chatman. “We were not excited at all about being at home and being up by one. We just reminded our players what they were capable of doing and they went out and executed in the second half.”
Augustus, who collected her third double-double of her career with a season-high 13 rebounds to go along with her 28 points, led the way for the Lady Tigers, followed by Doneeka Hodges’ 15 points and Sholanda Hoston with 10 points.
Vanessa Hayden led Florida with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Bernice Mosby with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
LSU, which had outrebounded Auburn, the nation’s top rebounding team on Sunday, grabbed more boards than Florida by 10. The Lady Tigers had 47 rebounds to Florida’s 37.
Neither team shot the ball very well. LSU hit just 40.6 percent, while the Gators shot 34.4 percent.
LSU hits the road for the first of three straight away from home on Sunday when they visit Lexington to battle Kentucky at 1 p.m. CST at Memorial Gym.
