AUSTIN, Texas — Several members of the LSU swimming and diving teams will participate in the Texas Bevo Invitational on Saturday evening at the Jamail Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
LSU will have 12 athletes participate in the 6p.m. meet, the final tune-up before the NCAA Championships, scheduled for the final two weeks in March for both the men and women. Nine women and three men will swim in the meet for LSU. The Lady Tigers swimming are: Margaret Beadle, Margot Gathings, Alice Hardesty, Hannah Martin, Laura Jo Leininger, Cissy Schepens, Kacie Vivo, Megan Wolters, and Cackey Miltenberger. The men’s team will be represented by Tim Dallinger, Mike Jotautas, and Carlysle Gulledge.
LSU is coming off a solid performance at the Southeastern Conference Championships last week, as both the men and women placed seventh overall, but most importantly LSU broke three school records in the men’s 200 and 400-medley relay and the women’s 200-medley relay.
Saturday’s meet will feature 18 events with the format being time trials for each event. Events of note are the 200, 400, and 800-freestyle relay, 1650-yard freestyle, and the 200 and 400-yard medley relay. Nine athletes have made “B” cuts this year as well as two with “A” cuts, and seven relay teams have made “B” cuts this season, and LSU will look for even more in their final meet prior to the NCAAs later in the month.
“This meet is a chance for several of our athletes to swim some fast times and also participate in a quality event at the same time,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana.”It is basically the last chance for our swimmers to make the cut for the NCAA’s, so we have got to put forth our best effort,” Cavana said.
The men’s NCAA Championships will be held from March 27-29 in Austin, while the women’s championships will be March 20-22 in Auburn, Ala.
