Swimming & Diving Hosts Four Teams on Senior Day

BATON ROUGE — The nationally ranked LSU swimming and diving team will host its final home meet of the season on Saturday at the LSU Natatorium. The meet will begin at noon and five seniors will be honored prior to the meet as part of Senior Day.

All-Americans Steve Gluck, Jamie Watkins and Mandy Leach along with Dawn Coy and Holly Winters will be recognized 10 minutes before the meet. The Tigers welcome Florida State, Louisiana-Monroe and Rice to the meet, which will consist of 26 events. The meet will include both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions and the 1650-yard freestyle for both men and women.

LSU lost to Texas A&M in their last meet on Jan. 18 in Baton Rouge. Both the men and women remained ranked in the College Swim Coaches Association of America top 25 poll despite the loss to the Aggies.

Gluck is a three-year letterman from Toronto, Canada, who is an All-American in the 200-medley relay and has participated at the SEC Championships for the past three years. Leach is a two-time All-American from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and was a participant at the 2000 Olympic Games in the 200-meter freestyle where she finished 13th.

Watkins is a Jacksonville, Fla., native and a five-time All-American and an NCAA Champion in the 1-meter diving competition. Winters is from Irving, Texas and is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Coy is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll from Metairie, La.

“We are real excited about this meet, because it is our last meet at home and we are honoring some great seniors,” said head coach Jeff Cavana. “We are facing some good teams so we need to get on a roll because we have the SEC Championships later this month.”

LSU will travel to the SEC Championships on Feb. 20-23 at Fayetteville, Ark. The LSU men are 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in the SEC. The women are currently 5-2 in dual-meet action and 3-1 in the SEC.
